We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward thinking Specialist Dental Nurse to join the Paediatric dental nursing team at Birmingham Dental Hospital.

The paediatric team are a specialist multi-disciplinary team that carry out a variety of different dental treatments under local anaesthetic, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.

0.6WTE - Specialist IV/IHS Sedation Nurse (Tuesday, Thursday & Friday)

The post-holder must be flexible as travel to other sites/locations within the division may be required.

The Post Holder will support the clinical management of the dental specialty and ensure the provision of a high standard of patient care and that all Trust policies and procedures are adhered to.

Delivery of high-quality clinical nursing support for the specialties across Dental Services Division clinical sites to respond to the complex needs of the patients that meet the specialty criteria.

The post holder will s upport the specialty to educate and develop clinical teams including undergraduate students, postgraduate, qualified dental nurses and dental nurse apprentices and have the a bility to work flexibly across the dental clinical and educational service.

Main duties of the job

Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service and manage patients with complex dental, social and medical needs

Stock control/rotation and the ordering of dental consumables as required from appropriate suppliers.

Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste including bodily fluids.

Support recording of patient pre-operative assessments. E.g. height weight and blood pressure

Carry out any other duties relevant to this role specified by the Dental Nurse Manager and/or Dental Nurse Tutor(s)

Provide clinical nursing support for radiography within the department to support the clinical patient pathway.

Identify relevant staff & student who require additional training within the specialty & escalate as appropriate

Support the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, School of Hygiene and Therapy and relevant Heads of Service to provide team training for all disciplines.

Adhere to procedures to support and maintaining achieving national targets of compliance.

Ensure to implement agreed, local Divisional and Trust Policies.

Implement outcomes in respect of Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement relating to the specialty.
