An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join the Heartlands Hospital pharmacy team as a Senior Support Pharmacy Technician - Dispensary Services. This role involves supervising daily dispensary operations, coordinating staff, managing stock, and supporting the safe and efficient supply of medicines. You will act as an Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) and ensure compliance with trust and regulatory standards.
Working closely with the Pharmacy Operations team, you will lead and support technical staff, assist with training, troubleshoot issues and contribute to service improvements. The role also includes participation in audits, quality improvement activities, and handling of controlled drugs. Excellent communication, organisation, leadership and a commitment to high-quality patient care are essential.
This post offers in-service development training and the opportunity to gain valuable leadership and management skills. A requirement to participate in evenings, weekends, and bank holidays on a rotational basis will be necessary.

With a forward thinking approach, you will:
Be responsible for co-ordinating workflow through the dispensary providing services for inpatients, and outpatients / discharge medication where applicable;
Oversee the daily operation in the main Dispensary, working towards achieving daily key performance indicators (KPIs);
Provide supervision for training, health and safety, and stock management;
Lead a team of dispensary staff ensuring to role the Trust core values;
Be responsible for the maintenance of waste management, reduction of expired medication and stock losses, and Controlled Drug regulations.
Work closely with other technicians and pharmacists across all sites, liaise with ward and medical staff within multidisciplinary teams
Where appropriate udertake patient counselling to ensure safe and efficient medicine use within the trust.
You will have:
A nationally recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council;
Experience within a hospital pharmacy setting
The ability to lead a busy team and motivate others;
A flexible approach to accommodate the needs of the service.
