Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Restorative 3 Department at Birmingham Dental Hospital for a permanent Band 5 Senior Dental Nurse.

The post holder has to be an experienced Dental Nurse who has excellent interpersonal, organisational and leadership skills and will work in close collaboration with the Dental Nurse Managers, Dental Matrons and Clinical Leads. The role will include responsibility for the management and development of the Dental Nurse Team to ensure smooth running of the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the clinical speciality to ensure the provision of a high standard of patient care and that all Trust policies and procedures are adhered to. This will include chairside activity as well as supporting the Dental Nurse Manager and other Senior Dental Nurses in the delivery of Dentistry training and development of the Service. They will also educate and develop dental nursing teams to respond to the complex needs of patients that meet the acceptance criteria across the service.

Job responsibilities

Senior Dental Nurse work within a dental team providing high quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the integrated Dental Service, Birmingham Dental Hospital (BDH), Community and Mobile Clinics and /or additional external sites as required.

There is a requirement to work autonomously to manage a team and use significant discretion when clinical and staffing issues arise.

Person Specification
Qualifications/training
  • A Dental Nurse qualification that enables registration with the General Dental Council i.e. NVQ Level 3, Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing or Dental Nursing National Certificate in Dental Nursing / Gained entry onto GDC register via grand-parenting (pre 2008)
  • Registered with the General Dental Council
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Hold a Level 3 Management Qualification or equivalent e.g. ILM (or willing to work towards)
  • Possess a recognised Post Qualification e.g. Dental Sedation Nursing, Dental Implant Nursing, Dental Radiography, Orthodontics
Experience
  • Significant experience in a wide range of dentistry
  • Relevant experience in day to day management of staff
  • Demonstrate full commitment to supporting undergraduates to deliver high quality patient care and achieve their required educational standard
  • Evidence of experience in service redesign and change of clinical financial management
