Band 5 Registered NurseHours: Part-time/Full-time 22.5 37.5 hours per weekLocation: Helen House, OxfordSalary: HDH Band 5 £33,636 - £40,483 per annum (pro rata)Closing date: 18th December 2025 at 12 noonAre you passionate about children and young people with complex health needs, life limiting conditions and have an interest and/or experience in palliative and end life care and working with families. This unique role will enable you, a talented nurse, to act as a professional role model and an ambassador of Helen & Douglas House. Main duties of the job

You will be an RNC/RSCN/RNLD with paediatric experience, or an RGN (adult nurse) with significant experience and clinical competencies achieved working with babies, children, and young people, looking for a flexible opportunity to provide quality care to babies, children, and young people with palliative and complex care needs.If you can conduct yourself with dignity and calm to others in complex, emotive situations, we would love to hear from you! We only have one chance to get it right at the end of someone's life, and we're committed to ensuring that our palliative care is exemplary.A typical day as a Registered Nurse is going to involve providing specialist support to help children and their families when they are at their most vulnerable. Advocacy will be key in developing the nurse-patient relationship, helping to build trust, and thereby improving the quality of care you provide. You will focus on comfort and quality of life, putting the children, young people and their family first. The hospice strives to provide individualised care based on each child's unique needs to promote a restful and relaxed environment.

Job responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing a high standard of holistic care and support to children and young people from 0-18, and their families.To be responsible for the assessment, planning and delivering of evidence-based nursing care to children and young people with life limiting conditions, and supporting their familiesTo work actively towards achieving the skills to co-ordinate a shift, ensuring that all care is delivered in accordance with HDH policies and proceduresTo contribute to the sharing of knowledge and training within the organisation in conjunction with the learning and development team.To support 24/7 care service consisting of a variety of shifts, including earlies, days, lates, nights and weekends.For the full job description, please see the supporting documents.

Qualifications
  • REGISTERED NURSE with valid up to date registration with NMC.

Experience
  • Experience of: palliative care of children/adults OR working with children with complex health needs OR supporting children/adults with disabilities
  • Experience of effective collaborative working with professionals from other agencies and disciplines.
  • Able to use skills, knowledge, and experience to care for children, young people, and families, based on individual needs
  • Evidence of innovative and evidence-based practice
  • Experience and good understanding of clinical supervision and reflective practice.
  • Experience of managing a group of staff or Team; being able to lead, manage, delegate, and prioritise to ensure safety
Additional Criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the key issues of caring for children with life-limiting conditions
  • Able to work independently and as part of a multi- disciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage own time and workload effectively.
  • Understanding of the impact on the child or young person living with a life limiting illness and on their families
  • Good understanding of safeguarding childrens policies and procedure. Safeguarding experience including Child in Need, Child Protection, Looked after Children. Knowledge of vulnerable young adults safeguarding procedures (DOLS, MCA etc)
  • Ability to support and supervise junior staff.
  • Enhanced communication skills including Makaton, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), PECS.
  • An understanding of Clinical Governance and Care Quality Commission standards.
  • Driving licence holder
