Job summary

Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a nurse to manage plaster room duties, applying and removing plaster casts with minimal supervision. You will be a core MDT member, caring for inpatients and outpatients and assisting in clinic activities when needed.

The role requires autonomous practice, effective communication, and a flexible approach to meet high standards and support service improvements across outpatient clinics.

Responsibilities

• Care of patients in plaster and apply/remove plaster casts autonomously
• Manage day-to-day running of the plaster room and patient caseload
• Communicate with other departments and disciplines within the MDT
• Contribute to service improvement and support other outpatient clinics as needed
• Conduct risk assessments and implement risk-reduction measures
• Contribute to staff learning within the department

Job description

The post holder will be involved in all aspects of care of patients in plaster and will apply and
remove a wide range of plaster casts without direct supervision. Working as a core member
of the multi-disciplinary team, care will be given to outpatients and inpatients. To manage
effectively and efficiently the patient caseload within the Plaster Room.
To communicate effectively with other departments and disciplines. As a member of the
clinic staff, the post holder will assist in the clinic activities when not specifically required in
the plaster room.
The post holder is expected to have a flexible approach in ensuring the work of the
department is carried out to the required high standards and will contribute to the service
improvement and maybe required to work to support other clinical work within the
outpatient clinics.
To be expected to practice autonomously within own scope of practice and exercise sound
clinical judgement.
To manage on a day to day running of the plaster room efficiently.
To manage effectively and efficiently the patient caseload within the plaster room, informing waiting patients of the reason for delays.
To minimize hazards in the working area and report any identified hazards to the appropriate departments and line manager.
To adhere to all safe systems of work applicable to the work area.
To undertake risk assessments and implement risk reducing measures. Reporting to the appropriate department and line manager any deficiencies in the arrangements for minimising risk.
To contribute to the learning needs of staff within the department.
