Job description

We are looking for 2 forward-thinking, enthusiastic, and self-motivated Senior Pharmacy Technicians to join the ward team as ward-based medicines administration pharmacy technicians. You must be adaptable to the needs of the service to cover the busiest drug rounds on the wards, including early, late, and long day working patterns.

You will be involved in the development of the Medicines Administration role of Pharmacy Technicians on psychiatric wards, working to provide patient-centred care and support nursing staff.

As a forerunner in the development of the Technician role, you will deliver medicines administration and optimisation services, expanding your experience which could elevate your career to new levels.

Successful candidates must be qualified ACPT and have significant experience in medicines optimisation at ward level. Previous experience in medicines administration is helpful but not essential. An empathy for patients suffering from mental health issues is vital. Our patients often have complex needs, and expanding the care team's skill set is essential to creating a holistic service.

This role is ward-based with allocated dispensary time to maintain competencies. You will develop your skills in mental health pharmacy and patient-facing care for service users.

Main Duties of the Job Include
  • Participating in medicines administration rounds
  • Completing admission activities such as medicines reconciliations, POD assessments, and managing patient supply needs both in and out of the ward
  • Supporting the discharge process, including ordering medications, transfer of care, and patient counselling
  • Conducting patient education sessions
  • Participating in MDT ward reviews
  • Optimising EPMA use to support your work and the team
  • Maintaining safe storage standards for medicines
  • Accuracy checking and dispensary activities to ensure competencies are maintained, primarily ward-based
