Job description

The Mechanical Engineer is a member of the LPT Estates and Facilities team and will carry out with minimum supervision

  • Maintenance
  • Fault finding
  • Repairs and installation work on all facilities
  • Plant and equipment throughout the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust estate and will also act as the Trust representative in the absence of the Supervisor or when requested to do so as and when the need arises by line management.

Working on the full range of Estates Services equipment, the Mechanical Engineer will undertake activities which require comparison of a range of options, complex facts requiring analysis to resolve technical issues in and on multifaceted equipment/situations many of which have a direct impact on patient safety and the built environment.

Responsible for

  • Calibration and fault finding on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment including various voltage systems, steam raising plant and associated equipment, steam sterilizers, medical gas systems, nurse call systems, lighting, fire detection, building services controls, standby generator plant, heating and ventilation control systems and refrigeration plant.
  • The post holder will be responsible for undertaking condition surveys, evaluating inspection reports and maintenance repairs, improvement and capital work across the Trust as directed by management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures

Key Responsibilities

  • You will provide an emergency out of hours service, working a rotating shift pattern covering 365 days a year subject to appropriate negotiations.
  • Manufacture, design, assemble, erect, and install new work often using own judgement regarding a range of complex equipment, requiring accuracy and precision.
  • Problem solve technical issues and fault diagnosis on complex Mechanical systems.
  • Observe statutory and other relevant requirements in particular to Health & Safety and Codes of Practice applicable to Operational Services.
  • Respond to switchboard and building management system alarms. eg. Fire alarms, lift trappings, Medical Gas Alarms, Boiler Alarms.
  • Lead and manage contractor teams delivering project work inclusive of consultants, contractors and agency staff as projects develop and involving recruitment and performance/behaviours on site.
  • Deputise for Senior Estates Manager on the full range of management duties as well as providing technical advice to other Estates Staff, Clinical Colleagues, and 3rd Party Contractors
  • Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance and Day to Day duties involving the maintenance of all types of plant, equipment, and installations, including boilers, water testing, stripping down boilers for insurance inspections and electrical system maintenance including fire alarm systems, batteries and uninterruptible power supplies.
