Job description

Are you an experienced and proactive HR professional looking to develop your career in a fast-paced, values-led organisation?

We are seeking a Band 5 HR Adviser to join our friendly and supportive HR & OD team on a 9 month fixed-term contract to cover Maternity Leave, working 37.5 hours per week.

This is an exciting time to join us as we are currently undergoing a significant organisational change programme. You will need to be confident working autonomously, able to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and manage the conflicting demands that come with delivering high-quality HR support in a dynamic and evolving environment.

As a key first point of contact for HR queries, you'll provide professional advice on a wide range of matters, including terms and conditions guidance, recruitment, employee relations, and policy guidance. You will also support managers and colleagues through different stages of the organisational change process.

We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills, great organisational skills, and previous HR experience supporting organisational change. A good working knowledge of employment law is essential. Experience working in or alongside the NHS or a similar public sector environment would be highly beneficial.

If you thrive in a fast-paced setting and are passionate about delivering high-quality HR support that makes a difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

As HR Adviser, you will be the first point of contact for HR advice and support, providing guidance on issues including organisational change, employee relations, and HR policy.

You will lead on day-to-day HR casework, advising managers and staff on matters such as absence, disciplinary, grievance, and performance concerns. You will support the full recruitment lifecycle from advertising and shortlisting to offer letters, contracts, onboarding, and induction, ensuring compliance with employment checks and NHS standards.

The role involves generating reports using HR systems (such as ESR and Excel) to help deliver workforce initiatives, including staff engagement and development programmes.

Working closely with HR Business Partners, you will help draft policies, support formal meetings, and ensure managers have the tools and knowledge needed to manage effectively and fairly. This varied and rewarding role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive issues with empathy and professionalism.
