Job description
Overview

Participation in provision of the out of hours service is required, as is flexible working to include evening and weekend hours. The post holder will also be involved in the provision of weekdays and weekend on call duties. The Trust accommodates flexible working and part time working.

The X-ray department has 5 general x-ray rooms (3 at the main site in Stanmore and 2 at Bolsover Street in central London) and a range of equipment including 1 fluoroscopy unit, 5 portable ward machines, 1 O-arm unit, 1 Cios Spin unit, a DEXA scanner and 15 theatre image intensifiers. A newly installed EOS scanner and HiRise Ped CT scanner are available and there will be opportunities to train in both scanners.

The X-ray department opens 08:00–20:30 Monday to Friday with reduced service on Saturdays and on-call cover during out-of-hours. The department is closed on Sundays.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient care and safety is paramount.
  • Work mainly in Outpatients/In-patient general x-ray, fluoroscopy, theatres, EOS scanning, HiRise Ped CT scanning and DXA, depending on department needs.
  • Train and work with radiologists, radiographers and assistants; contribute to teaching of students and more junior staff.
  • Be an integral part of the smooth running of the imaging service and communicate effectively with a wide range of staff and patient groups.
  • Manage workload effectively, applying knowledge and skill to produce high quality images and adapt techniques to meet complex patient requirements.
  • Operate within Trust and departmental protocols and comply with IRMER17 and IRR17 regulations; ensure radiation doses are as low as reasonably achievable and every exposure is justified.
  • Ensure the safety of all patients and staff in radiation-controlled areas and maintain accurate patient records and PACS management.
  • Participate in training plans designed to facilitate development to Band 6 within 12–18 months from Band 5 level.
  • Rotation through all sites (Stanmore and Bolsover Street) as part of service delivery.

  • Work closely with radiologists, radiographers and assistants; contribute to service improvements and patient care standards.
  • Liaise with colleagues and other teams to ensure effective use of the imaging service.
