Band 5/6 - Research Nurse, Research and Development
Research administration skills to be developed during the training period include:
- Understanding international, national, and local policies and legislation relating to clinical trials.
- Learning to prepare for external inspections (e.g., MHRA) and internal audits.
- Registering and randomising patients into trial protocols.
- Extracting clinical data from patients' case notes and transferring the data into trial Case Report Forms.
- Assisting in accurate and complete data collection, updating, and maintenance of databases and computerized systems.
- Taking responsibility for filing and the safe storage of clinical trials data sheets and for sending them to Clinical Trials Units as appropriate.
- Helping to manage and facilitate clinical trials, establishing and maintaining communication channels among staff and departments to ensure policies and protocols are understood and followed.
- Understanding the role of clinical trials units and liaising with them as necessary.
- Assisting in the preparation of research proposals for submission to the Local Ethics Committee and R&D department.
- Attending and participating in unit meetings and seminars.
