Job description

North Middlesex University Hospital (North Mid) are searching for an experienced and passionate Band 5&6 Physiotherapist to join their highly skilled and enthusiastic team.

North Middlesex provides both hospital and community care, helping to keep people in the best possible health at every stage in their lives.

Its maternity, children, and adult services span a range of medical and surgical specialities and its adult and children’s emergency departments are among the busiest in London.

North Mid is also proud to offer one of the largest services in the UK dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of red cell haemoglobin conditions, including sickle cell disease and thalassaemia syndromes.

Job Purpose

To provide an advanced neurological physiotherapy service to primary and tertiary referred patients.

To perform advanced neurological physiotherapy assessments and treatment to patients, often with diverse, complex, or multiple pathologies and presentations.

To work as an autonomous practitioner to formulate a treatment plan and management programme according to assessment findings and to develop and maintain high standards of patient care.

To be an integral member of the physiotherapy team and MDT, contributing to the management of the department and the training and supervision of students, physiotherapists, assistants and other health care professionals.

To contribute to the management and development of staff especially with regard to all aspects of clinical governance and to deputise for senior staff as required.

To participate in the emergency weekend and public holiday services as stated in the departmental policy, working as an autonomous practitioner without supervision. When working on the emergency duty rota, to undertake the assessment and treatment of acute stroke patients or acutely ill patients with neurological problems.

To be able to exert moderate to intense physical effort for frequent periods throughout the working day e.g. crawl, kneel, squat, crouch, bend during assessment and treatment of neurological patients and also manoeuvre manual handling equipment around the hospital.

Requirements

-Degree/ or equivalent in Physiotherapy

- Registered Physiotherapist (HPC)

- Evidence of attendance on specialist Post graduate neurosciences courses (e.g. Normal movement)

- Active member of a neurosciences interest group

- Broad post-graduate experience at appointment, of which 6 months is specific neurosciences post graduate experience

- Proven experience and competence in assessing and treating a variety of neuroscience patients

- Documented evidence of continuing professional development

- Evidence of having worked unsupervised on an emergency on call and weekend rota assessing and treating patients with deteriorating respiratory and neurological status

- Evidence of active participation in in-service training programmes

- Ability to work unsupervised as a competent autonomous practitioner.

- Ability to work under pressure

- Interest in research

-The physical skills and capabilities for the assessment and skilled therapeutic treatment of patients with acute, chronic and progressive neurological disability both on the wards and in the therapy treatment areas
