Band 4 Trainee Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner

Are you keen to make a difference to the mental health needs of people living in Birmingham? Are you looking for a new opportunity to develop your skills in working with a team supporting adults with severe mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and psychosis?

We are looking for five highly motivated individuals to join Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) as Trainee Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners. This is an exciting role, to support the transformation of our community services for adults with severe mental problems. This role will contribute to ensuring adults with severe mental health problems have greater access to psychologically informed interventions. The five posts will be individually embedded within separate CMHTs across BSMHFT.

As a Trainee Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioner, you will undertake a one-year training which is in collaboration with Worcester University and will commence in September 2025. Dependent on your existing qualifications, you will achieve either a graduate certificate or postgraduate certificate. Posts are full-time. Your training will be fully funded by the NHS (Band 4) and you will be eligible for a full-time qualified position (Band 5) on successful completion of the course.

The Trainee Mental Health And Wellbeing Practitioner Will

  • Complete a combination of academic and clinical work across the one-year programme
  • Attend all elements of the training programme of study and progress successfully through assessments of competence and attainment
  • Develop and practice psychologically-informed interventions under supervision, working directly with adults in the community
  • Support collaborative care planning, alongside other members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Work closely alongside a team of mental health professionals to deliver a set of brief wellbeing-focused psychologically informed interventions

Please note: Trainee mental health wellbeing practitioner posts are training positions. Progression into a permanent contract is subject to successful completion of the course. Successful candidates will be expected to travel to Worcester University to complete their training, but the clinical post will be based in the CMHT. The training will be blended to include remote learning and on site.

Applicants will need to meet both the University and Trust eligibility requirements for appointment. Further information about the university entry requirements can be provided on request.
