Job description

Band 4 - Rotational Technician - Pharmacy Production Services

The post holder will assist the Chief Technician and Senior Technicians in the daily operations of the Sterile Production Unit, the Central Intravenous Additive Service (CIVAS), and the Non-Sterile Manufacturing Department. The department is divided into four teams: Sterile Batches, Chemotherapy, Non-Sterile, and CIVAS. The post holder will be a member of one team and will rotate as required. Responsibilities include ensuring all products are manufactured in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice, COSHH, and Health and Safety directives.

This is a fixed-term post for 12 months.

Main Duties

Assist in the daily operations of the designated units and train less experienced staff. Deputise for the Senior Technician as needed. Develop and maintain expertise in all technical aspects of manufacture, especially aseptic preparation, and ensure personal accreditations are kept up-to-date.

Education & Qualifications
  • NVQ Pharmacy Services Level 3 with underpinning knowledge, BTEC Pharmaceutical Science, or working towards a Science Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a pharmacy technician or equivalent.
Experience
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy or drug manufacturing environment.
  • Portfolio demonstrating pharmacy practice skills, knowledge, and CPD.
Skills and Aptitudes
  • Ability to train and assess others.
  • Accurate following of procedures under pressure.
  • Preparation of medicines requiring fine motor skills.
  • Making aseptically prepared products using laminar flow cabinets and isolators.
  • Making non-sterile products.
  • Good aseptic skills demonstrated by negative broth runs.
  • Prioritising and organising tasks independently.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy computer systems, data entry, and email.
  • Safe handling of hazardous materials according to SOPs.

Salary: £31,944 to £34,937 per annum, inclusive of HCAS (pro-rata).
