A healthcare institution in Lancashire is seeking a qualified individual to perform technical and scientific processes in the Haematology/Transfusion department. The role involves sample analysis, troubleshooting, and supporting diagnosis. Candidates should possess a foundation degree in Healthcare Science and ideally have experience in a pathology or NHS laboratory. This full-time role includes shift work across various times.
The duties are to perform technical and scientific processes within the Haematology/Transfusion discipline to support the BMS staff. This involves: receipt/recording of samples (blood transfusion), performing sample analysis by utilising the department's automated analysers, troubleshooting and maintenance of analysis, running quality control processes, and supporting the BMS staff to aid the diagnosis of haematological disorders and transfusion-related complications, while following the department's written procedures (SOPs).
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and, as such, this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020. A Disclosure check will be submitted to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Location: Haematology/Transfusion Department at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital.
Employment type: Full time (37.5 hours per week) with a flexible working approach required. The post is based on a roster pattern including shifts across days, evenings, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.
