This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 6 months.

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust are actively recruiting a Band 4 Therapy Assistant. We are looking for a motivated, dynamic and innovative individual to join our therapy department at KGH working with our frailty team to provide an exercise programme for our patients on the elderly wards.

Working in a fast-paced environment, you will have the opportunity to offer a programme of exercises to our patients to prevent deconditioning and keep patients mobile. As a Band 4 Therapy Assistant you will have the opportunity to build a strong set of skills such as assessing and upgrading exercise programmes under the guidance of the qualified therapist.

You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, some experience as a therapy assistant and a care certificate or equivalent

We have a strong commitment to continuing development with an established in-service training programme. You will be well supported by experienced therapists.

  • To provide skilled routine, and non-routine, clinical and technical support to the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy team and clerical staff associated with the team.
  • To accept routine patient referrals as defined within the framework matrix, and assess and treat according to protocols and guidelines. To monitor patient progression, and make alterations to intervention as required. To discharge routine patients once their therapeutic goals have been met and an appropriate discharge plan established.
  • To work independently, with access to direct supervision as required. To maintain close communication with the Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist to facilitate patient care.
  • To organise and participate in the team induction and in-service training programmes. Routinely providing in-service training to team colleagues.
  • To carry out other duties deemed necessary by the Clinical Lead/Clinical Specialist in discussion with the post holder to ensure adequate provision of service.

The qualified therapists within the team will remain responsible for the following:

  • Allocation of patients for assessment / intervention
  • Overseeing the clinical quality and ensuring appropriateness of the intervention practised with the patient
  • Setting the protocols and guidelines and monitoring the progression of the patient

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with.

They are benefitting from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The majority of our 8,400 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
