Band 4 Associate Mechanical Workshop Technician

£27,485 - £30,162 per annum (pro rata)

Full time - 37.5 hours per week

The post holder will work in a well-equipped mechanical workshop. The majority of the work will involve the production and set up of bespoke wheelchair and seating systems for individual clients. This work will range from making small modifications to mobility equipment through to set up and programming (to a set up level) of powered wheelchair controls. There will also be a requirement to repair and modify existing seating and mobility systems under the guidance of the clinical team. The post holder will record the work they do and any innovation and calculations within the quality management system.

Equipment management is key to the efficient running of Regional Posture & Mobility Services. These clinical services provide postural and mobility solutions for the people of Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. They are supported by a Mechanical Workshop which can create bespoke and innovative solutions for the services

The Mechanical Workshop supports Rehabilitation Engineering throughout the West Midlands by producing tailored innovations to meet the needs of service users with postural and mobility issues. These solutions are produced within a Quality Management System to ensure compliance to relevant medical device legislation

The post holder will support Regional Posture & Mobility Service in the provision of the clinical service by ensuring equipment is checked to specification and available for clinical activity at the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre or other locations. The role will include the use of the Service vans to move equipment. With the guidance of the clinicians, the post holder may be required to join clinics to facilitate fitting and handover of equipment solutions
