Job summary

A healthcare provider is seeking a motivated Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician to join their Pharmacy Team. Job overview

We are looking for a motivated Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician with excellent communication skills to join our Pharmacy Team. We seek an individual enthusiastic about improving the lives of those with mental health issues, with the drive to make a positive impact on patient care. Previous mental health experience is not required, as training and support will be provided to develop your knowledge and skills.

Applicants must be qualified Pharmacy Technicians registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have relevant hospital experience. Ideally, candidates will possess a hospital pharmacy experience, a recognised medicines optimisation qualification, and be qualified accuracy checking technicians. Candidates without these qualifications will also be considered. The salary banding will depend on experience and qualifications, starting at Band 5 upon completion of necessary accreditations. The exact pay band will be discussed at interview, based on experience and qualifications.

In this role, you will work closely with experienced pharmacists to provide comprehensive medicines optimisation services to inpatient units and community teams across BaNES, Swindon, and Wiltshire.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide medicines optimisation services to mental health and physical health wards and community teams across BaNES, Swindon, and Wiltshire.
  • Collaborate with doctors and nurses to resolve medication discrepancies and improve patient care, escalating issues as needed.
  • Offer medication advice to patients.
  • Serve as a role model and assist in training new staff, including Pre-Registration Technicians.
  • Support dispensary operations with dispensing and accuracy checking, escalating queries to the Responsible Pharmacist.
  • Contribute to the medicines supply chain management and support the safe and effective use of medicines through clinical work, enquiry responses, and medicines governance activities.

Working hours are 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and bank holiday shifts (10 am to 1 pm). The service operates approximately 1 in 10 weekends and bank holidays from Calne and Callington Road dispensaries.
