Band 3 Therapy Support Worker

We are excited to offer a therapy support worker the opportunity to work within our Solihull community MSK outpatient service, dedicated to providing the best possible care for our patients. We offer multiple services including 1:1 appointment's, knee bracing, multiple classes, barriers to exercise clinic, to name but a few. We are constantly evolving to follow the NHS 10 year plan towards accessible, preventative healthcare starting in the community.

The role of the Therapy Support Worker within MSK outpatients is to use a wide range of knowledge and skills to assist in the physical, psychological and functional rehabilitation of patients referred to the service with joint, muscle or functional concerns. We are looking for someone with a keen interest and background in exercise prescription, anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal system and a desire to promote and maintain the health and well-being of patients.

Main duties of the job

The Therapy Support Worker will work alongside and in negotiation with a registered Physiotherapist and is expected to independently manage their own caseload in a supervised MSK outpatient setting. Throughout the week they will be required to travel across the borough to complete their daily caseload and assist with exercise classes or specialist clinics run within the service. They will use a variety of skills used within MSK, i.e. soft tissue massage, exercise prescription and supporting patients towards self-management, as guided by a registered clinician.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• *GCSE or equivalent to Level 2 Functional Skills Maths & English.
• *NVQ 3 or a validated equivalent qualification plus knowledge of specific patient conditions, forms of therapy, acquired through training and /or from significant relevant experience working as a Band 3 Therapy support worker.
• *Sports science qualification or equivalent.

Experience

• *In-depth / broad understanding of musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and the effect of illness and disability on function.
• *Experience working within therapies or with a therapist team.
• *Can demonstrate knowledge of assessment skills and intervention skills to complete patient follow up for the relevant clinical area, guided by registered clinician when appropriate.
• *Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment under appropriate supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• *Experience of providing and receiving complex sensitive information.
• *Experience of managing / prioritising own case load / workload, using initiative
• *Competent in a range of clinical skills and practices relevant to the scope of practice required.
• *Experience in delegating duties to others as appropriate.
• *Understanding of the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity.
• *Awareness of health and safety issues.
• *Has knowledge in relation to the parameters and scope of practice in which the post holder should work and when to seek advice and support/ escalate of others for expert help and advice.
• *Experience working within MSK/T&O.
• *An interest in furthering own knowledge of physical illness and disability.

• *Full driving licence and access to a car to travel across clinic sites.
