Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Senior Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer to join the Out of Hospital Services team at Solihull Hospital. You will support safe and effective medicines management across intermediate care and community-based services, working with pharmacy, nursing and multidisciplinary teams to improve patient flow.

Qualifications

• Must have a recognised pharmacy services qualification and be able to prioritise in a busy environment.
• Understanding of pharmacy computer systems and health and safety requirements.
• Ability to work to set procedures and maintain accuracy under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Supporting timely access to medicines and pharmaceutical care across the patient journey.
• Working with pharmacy, ward and multidisciplinary teams to promote safe medicines handling.

• Supporting medicines safety audits, monitoring and service improvement.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

Person specification

Qualifications

• GCSE grade C/4 or above in Mathematics and English (or equivalent)
• NVQ level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF), BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science

or

• Accredited Dispensing Assistants Course (NPA)

Experience

• Post NVQ level 2 qualification developmental experience of a range of dispensing with formal training and annual revalidated accreditation as a dispenser
• Understanding of pharmacy related computer systems
• Understanding of Health and Safety at Work, manual handling and COSHH
• Understanding of dispensing, stock control and supply systems and processes

Desirable

• Previous experience within a hospital pharmacy setting
• Experience in staff training
• Working Knowledge of JAC pharmacy system
• Knowledge of drugs, side effects & where to find further information
