Job overview

The role of a Peer Support Worker (PSW) in Domestic Abuse is designed for individuals with lived experience of domestic abuse challenges. By sharing their own experiences, peer support workers inspire hope and demonstrate that life outside of these experiences is possible. They contribute positively by using their lived experience.

Main duties of the job

The PSW will lead in embedding peer support values within a designated clinical pathway, collaborate with Trust recovery and Domestic Abuse champions, and act as an ambassador of Peer Support for the Trust with external agencies and partners. As a valued member of the multidisciplinary team, the PSW will provide formal peer support and practical assistance to service users based on their mental health goals.

By sharing their own lived experience, PSWs inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible, recognizing each individual's recovery as a personal process. They work with service users to recognize strengths, identify meaningful aspects of life, and support information sharing to promote choice, self-determination, and social connection.

As part of the team, the PSW will perform duties aligned with our peer support core competencies framework, working with service users on a 1:1 and/or group basis. Opportunities for innovation and development will be available as the post progresses.
