Band 3 Nuclear Safety Inspector - Control and Instrumentation
The Opportunity
As the UK’s independent nuclear regulator, our mission is vital to the nation’s safety and security. We protect society by securing safe operations at nuclear facilities across our nation.
This role is crucial for the decarbonisation of the UK’s economy, national defence, and nuclear legacy decommissioning. A career with ONR offers opportunities to influence the future use of nuclear technology.
Inspectors undertake diverse roles, including regulating new nuclear construction, decommissioning legacy facilities, conducting inspections, assessing safety submissions, managing projects, investigations, research, and mentorship.
As a Control and Instrumentation (C&I) inspector, you will assess the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and operation of C&I systems to ensure risk control. You will work within a team of C&I experts, sharing knowledge and expertise to enhance regulatory effectiveness.
The C&I culture values challenge, open-mindedness, and collaboration, engaging with stakeholders like licensees, professional bodies, and international standards organizations to develop standards and guidance.
We value diversity and inclusion, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds. Our values are supportive, open-minded, fair, and accountable. We invest in our people’s development, resilience, and wellbeing.
Qualifications
Experience in nuclear or high-hazard industries is preferred but not mandatory; structured training will be provided if needed.
We are committed to inclusivity, offering adjustments during recruitment and guaranteed interviews for disabled applicants and veterans meeting criteria.
The candidate must obtain and maintain SC level clearance.
Work can be based at Bootle, Cheltenham, or London, with a relocation package up to £15,000. Travel across the UK and abroad is required. A full UK driving license is necessary unless reasonable adjustments are made.
We operate a hybrid working model balancing office and home work, tailored to individual and organizational needs.
