Job description

Job overview

On Sycamore Ward, we are looking for highly motivated Health Care Assistants to join our experienced and friendly team.

Sycamore Ward is located within Hillview Lodge, on the grounds of The Royal United Hospital. Currently, Sycamore is piloting a 15-bed all-female ward, which will return to a mixed-gender ward in the near future.

We are proud of our service user and carer involvement in developing our services.

If you are positive, proactive, and able to make important decisions under pressure, and if you are a strong team player who can take responsibility and work with a service-user-centered mindset, then you might be a perfect addition to the Sycamore team.

Main duties of the job
  • Work as part of a care team to deliver evidence-based interventions to service users with mental health problems.
  • Develop and practice therapeutic care skills alongside registered clinicians, contributing to service users’ psychological, emotional, and social wellbeing.
  • Ensure that care provided to service users and their relatives prioritizes safety, effectiveness, partnership, and hope.
  • Promote and support core care values by assisting junior, temporary, and newly-appointed Healthcare Support Workers.
  • Participate in our active weekly community meetings with service users, carers, volunteers, and staff to share good news and address areas for improvement, making the ward a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Contribute to the ward’s mission statement and participate in projects such as the safe wards initiative, reducing restrictive practices, and a QI project on sexual safety.
  • Support a positive reporting culture and engage in training opportunities, including trauma-informed care. Be part of a strong social support network within the team.
