The University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an Electrical Maintenance Assistant to join the team. The role includes maintenance and operation of electrical services with responsibilities including compliance with health and safety regulations, functional testing of equipment, and teamwork in a collaborative setting. Essential qualifications include a relevant electrical diploma and hands-on experience in electrical engineering.
Job summary
The successful post holder will be involved in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of Electrical services, plant and equipment within all Trust and within their remit, including some installation work. They will be part of a team of Maintenance Assistants carrying out planned and unplanned maintenance duties as directed by the Electrical Supervisor and Team leader.
Main duties of the jobTo undertake all work activities as requested by the Electrical Supervisor/Estates Officer.
To work in accordance with Trust safety rules and procedures at all times.
To actively participate in the operation of facilities labour control scheme, by completion of all paperwork and reports as required by the scheme.
Carry out all work on equipment as required by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH Regulations, Building and Construction Regulations and the Trust's Safety Policy.
To work overtime to carry out repairs/maintenance not possible during normal hours.
To liaise with the Electrical Supervisor regarding plant or equipment failures, or deviations to regulations, and to request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary.
At all times when on duty or on call, to carry Trust communication devices such as mobile telephones, two-way radios, or pagers to facilitate immediate response to emergencies.
Perform functional testing of portable and fixed appliances, engineering plant, lighting, fire detection and nurse call systems.
Use of calibrated precision test and measuring instrumentation to establish plant and equipment operating parameters and records results of same on test certificates.
Uses all relevant diagnostic, and hand tools within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.
Ensure that all accidents, incidents, near misses, damages and irregularities are documented and reported to a manager in accordance with Trust policy.
