Job description

Job Title: Baker

As a Baker for Sodexo at King Edward VI Five Ways Secondary, Scotland Lane, Birmingham, B32 4BT, you will assist the Cook Manager in overseeing all aspects of food and beverage operations, including producing all baked goods on site. You will support the Cook Manager in showcasing the kitchen's offerings in an appealing manner, ensuring excellent service. Additionally, you will not work unsociable hours and will enjoy public holidays off, including Christmas.

What you do:
  • Prepare, cook, present, and serve food to company standards, including breakfast, morning break, lunch, and hospitality.
  • Adhere to all company compliance standards (Food Safety, Health and Safety, Allergen Awareness, COSHH, HACCP).
  • Carry out craft/skills training for catering staff.
  • Ensure all service counters and food are presented to company standards.
  • Portion each dish according to business requirements.
  • Complete daily/weekly cleaning duties, including food prep and storage areas, communal areas, and waste removal.
  • Deliver high standards of customer service, cleanliness, and operational activity.
What you bring:
  • Minimum of 1 year of hands-on cooking experience; training on Food Hygiene and Health & Safety will be provided.
  • Experience cooking on a large scale, catering to 100–1300 students.
  • Experience following recipes, preferably in a similar setting.
  • Experience working with fresh produce and ingredients.
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Professional attitude, leading by example, with a positive outlook.
  • Basic food handling skills certification.
