Engineering Technician – Baggage

From £41,130 + Shift Allowance + Bonus + Benefits

Are you our next Engineering Technician – Baggage? We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for our Engineering department.

The Engineering team delivers what matters. They protect, maintain, and repair our infrastructure, including electricity, giant plant rooms, and specialist equipment on the airfield.

What is the role?

To conduct planned and reactive maintenance and intervention tasks on all plant and equipment that make up the baggage systems at Gatwick Airport, ensuring high standards and maximum operational uptime. This is a shift-based role including night and weekend work.

This position supports baggage operations, involving complex conveyor systems, sortation machines, carousels, scanners, PLCs, and IT control systems.

What will you do?

  • Undertake planned preventative and corrective maintenance, considering asset performance and operational needs.
  • Maintain accurate engineering and operational records.
  • Support performance improvement activities.
  • Ensure safety, including PPE use, mandatory training, and incident reporting.
  • Use GAL IT systems (Ultimo, MyHub, P2W, Microsoft Office).
  • Develop skills to maintain and operate assets effectively.
  • Complete role-specific training.
  • Work in passenger-facing and back-of-house areas across the airport.
  • Collaborate with team members; no direct reports involved.

Do you have what we're looking for?

  • Advanced modern apprenticeship (Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic) or equivalent.
  • Core skills in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering to at least ONC level (Level 3).
  • Technical maintenance experience.
  • Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematic drawings.
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in system performance improvements.
  • Knowledge of 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations.
  • Driving license.

Interview Process

  1. 30-minute virtual discussion with the hiring manager.
  2. One-hour technical assessment with the Engineering Leader.
