Engineering Manager – Baggage

Salary: From £59,795 + £4,750 Flex Allowance + Up to 20% Bonus + Benefits

What's the role?

The core purpose of this role is to deliver a safe, efficient, and resilient Baggage System—one of the three major flows within the Airport (alongside aircraft and passenger flows). You will be fully accountable for the Baggage Systems to ensure high levels of safety, reliability, and availability of this critical infrastructure.

The role requires strong leadership of the maintenance team and effective management of third parties and stakeholders.

What you'll be doing

• Lead and develop the Baggage Engineering team of highly skilled Technicians to deliver the maintenance plan.
• Ensure optimal performance of the Baggage asset base, including performance improvements to enhance system availability against OBP / CSS metrics.
• Drive EH&S culture across all teams to reduce incidents and promote a safe working environment.
• Produce effective communication and reports for all stakeholders, such as GAL teams, Airlines, and handling agents, to enable smooth operation.
• Manage costs and contracts to ensure operational budgets are met.

Do you have what we're looking for?

• Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline preferred; HND level with significant experience accepted.
• Proven proactive leadership to promote health and safety culture, ensuring processes and procedures protect employees and contractors.
• Experience in leading, managing, and developing baggage teams aligned with Gatwick's strategic priorities.
• Ability to ensure system performance meets and exceeds OBP and CSS measures.
• Experience leading failure investigations related to baggage systems and operational impacts.
