Job description

Aviation Recruitment experts Optime are searching for an experienced Baggage Handler/Ramp Agent to join a well-respected and successful client at Gatwick Airport. The job offers full time hours and overtime opportunities.

PLEASE NOTE: APPLICANTS MUST HOLD A FULL VALID UK DRIVING LICENCE

What's on offer:

  • Rate of pay: £13.99 per hour.
  • Shift Pattern: 4 on 2 off or 4 on 4 off
  • Hours per week: 40 hours per week.
  • Shifts: Example times below.
  • Weekly Pay (every Friday).
  • Temp to Perm (performance based).

Start dates:

  • 30th April 2025
  • May TBC

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Processing customers' luggage, ensuring they are loaded into the aircraft for departure and unloaded and transported to the airport on arrival. Ensuring the proper distribution of weight and balance.
  • Working both airside and within the Undercroft (baggage unit).
  • This is a manual role; candidates must be physically fit and able to repetitively lift and move luggage up to 30KG in weight. There will be downtime during shifts between arrivals or departures.
  • This is a multi-skilled position; candidates will be given the opportunity to upskill and operate several different vehicles and items of machinery, such as mobile stair units for passenger boarding, belt loaders, buggies transporting passenger luggage, and tug vehicles to help the aircraft prepare for take-off.
  • Adapting to adverse weather conditions, such as rain, snow, or extreme temperatures, to ensure the safety and efficiency of ground operations.
  • Collaborating with other ramp agents, ground handling staff, and airline personnel to ensure efficient airport operations and timely turnaround of the aircraft.
  • Full training will be provided (5 days classroom-based training and shadowing).
  • Full PPE will be provided.

Shifts:

The Airport is operational 7 days per week, and candidates will be working on a 4 on 2 off rolling rota. This could be subject to change!

4 on 2 off rolling (Days):

  • Day 1: 03:00AM to 10:30AM
  • Day 2: 05:00AM to 14:00PM
  • Day 3: 12:00PM to 22:00PM
  • Day 4: 12:00PM to 22:00PM

4 on 4 off rolling (Nights)

  • Day 1: 19:00PM to 07:00AM
  • Day 2: 19:00PM to 07:00AM
  • Day 3: 19:00PM to 07:00AM
  • Day 4: 19:00PM to 07:00AM

Requirements:

  • A Full UK Manual Driving Licence is mandatory.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative, while being part of a team.
  • Right to Work in the UK.
  • Five year fully checkable reference history.
  • Ability to pass Criminal Record Check (CRC).
