Job summary

The Old Vic in London is seeking a Backstage Duty Manager to oversee backstage operations, ensuring guest comfort and safety across services and events. You will lead a team, manage staff, and coordinate hospitality functions within a busy theatre environment.

The role requires proven supervisory experience, strong customer service and IT skills, and the ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. 24 hours per week, based at The Old Vic, The Cut, London.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Duty Manager or Supervisor in a comparable space or venue.
• Strong customer service and people-management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Good literacy and numeracy with IT familiarity (Microsoft Office, Excel).
• Flexible availability to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Responsibilities

• Operate EPOS/till systems and process transactions accurately.
• Carry out opening/closing duties and follow the rota.
• Support events, private hires and theatre hospitality functions.
• Lead on fire evacuation and safety procedures.
• Create daily briefing sheets and coordinate space/service movements.
• Prepare End of Night reports and maintain stock/space knowledge.
