Job summary

Deliveroo in London is seeking a Software Engineer, Backend to design, build and operate the core BI backend services and integrations powering Looker, Sigma and related systems. This hands-on role focuses on scalable APIs, identity and access automation, and reliable infrastructure.

You will work closely with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers and Product Managers to turn recurring needs into durable, self-service capabilities while maintaining high standards for security and performance.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend, platform or infrastructure systems.
• Readable, maintainable, well-tested Python code; solid SQL and data warehousing concepts.
• Experience building and owning APIs and automation in production with proper data contracts.
• Hands-on with CI/CD, containers and Kubernetes, observability and incident response.
• Experience using AI tools (LLMs) as part of engineering and governance.

Responsibilities

• Own backend services from discovery to deployment and operation.
• Collaborate with data and analytics teams to deliver durable self-service capabilities.
• Improve reliability, observability, and security of the platforms.
• Build and maintain integrations with BI ecosystems (Looker, Sigma).
