Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.
Join a pioneering team accelerating a new energy future through cutting-edge research and innovation. As a Backend DevOps Engineer, you’ll architect scalable cloud infrastructure, enable real-time data sharing, and build robust backend systems that power experimentation and innovation. If you thrive at the intersection of software engineering and DevOps, and enjoy solving complex problems in collaborative environments, this is your opportunity to make a real impact.
About the Role
Help us build and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure, enable real-time data sharing, and develop backend software systems that support our mission to accelerate the energy transition. We’re assembling a highly skilled team of researchers to perform cutting-edge innovation across six themes: flexibility, automation, connectivity, markets, access, and engagement. We’re growing in scope, size, and impact, giving newcomers the chance to play a pivotal role in shaping the team and its processes, as it in turn impacts the wider industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and manage cloud-based systems (e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP) to support high-availability, secure, and efficient deployment pipelines and real-time data services.
Build robust backend components and APIs for real-time data sharing and analytics, ensuring performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Lead CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, and incident response processes to streamline development workflows and ensure system resilience.
Work closely with data scientists, researchers, and product stakeholders to translate technical requirements into scalable solutions that support experimentation and innovation.
About You
The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of software engineering and DevOps, and is passionate about delivering robust, data-driven solutions in a dynamic environment. They are comfortable working in cross-functional teams, with a proactive approach to problem-solving, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing.
We are looking for someone who has:
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in computer science, software engineering, or a related field (ideal but not essential).
Proven experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP), infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi), and CI/CD pipelines.
Solid programming skills ideally in Python or Scala, with experience building backend services, APIs, and data processing pipelines for real-time applications.
Familiarity with streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, MQTT, or WebSockets) and designing systems for low-latency data sharing and analytics.
