NatWest Group, through its Mettle initiative, is seeking a Back End Engineer to build and evolve core backend services. You will craft clean, scalable Java code using Spring Boot or Micronaut, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact solutions.

Work with Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS, and contribute to secure, data-driven architectures. You will mentor junior engineers and help shape engineering direction with a customer-centric approach.

Formación

• Strong background in software engineering or database design.
• Solid knowledge of Java development and Spring Boot / Micronaut.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS deployments.
• Familiarity with Kafka, event sourcing, and secure applications.

• This is an opportunity for a technically minded Software Engineer to join Mettle
• You'll be working with new and innovative technology to deliver high impact solutions
• Hone your existing software engineering skills and advance your career in this critical role

What you'll do

You’ll join one of the core cross-functional mission teams to build and develop Mettle. We will look to you to develop clean, elegant and reusable code that is well-tested and easy to maintain and extend.

You’ll also:

• Work with stakeholders across the business to drive the direction of Mettle Engineering and put the long-term interests of customers at the heart of key decisions
• Collaborate across our backend chapter to uphold standards, best practices and to promote innovation
• Work collaboratively with the team to resolve technical issues
• Support and oversee junior engineers and act as a subject matter expert

The skills you'll need

You’ll need a strong background in software engineering, software design or database design and architecture. You should have solid practical and theoretical knowledge of Java software development as well as strong experience of Spring Boot / Micronaut.

You’ll also need:

• An understanding of Kubernetes / Docker
• An excellent understanding of AWS deployment and configuration
• Experience working with message-driven architectures / Kafka / event sourcing
• Experience working on a highly secure application
• An understanding on how to translate business objectives into data driven insight
