Job summary

Mentor Talent Acquisition in London seeks a backend engineer to own and scale critical systems powering our AI-driven research platform. You will work across backend services, data pipelines and internal tooling to automate workflows and improve decision-making.

You will take ownership end-to-end, collaborating with product, commercial, and operations teams, and help shape our engineering direction in a fast-moving startup environment.

Qualifications

• Experience owning backend systems end-to-end.
• Strong in Python or TypeScript.
• Familiar with modern data platforms (Snowflake/BigQuery).

We’re building LLM-powered workflow tools to support investment research for private market investors, used by leading private equity and consulting firms globally. The company is profitable, bootstrapped, and growing quickly, with a team of 30+ across London, NYC, and Sydney.

The Role

This is a high-ownership backend engineering role focused on building and scaling systems that power an AI-driven research platform.

You’ll work across backend systems, data pipelines, integrations, and internal infrastructure — partnering closely with product, commercial, and operations teams to automate workflows and improve decision-making.

What You’ll Do

• Design and scale backend systems supporting LLM workflows, vector search, and orchestration
• Build data pipelines and internal platforms integrating product, CRM, and financial systems
• Develop automation and internal tooling to improve company efficiency
• Own systems end-to-end — from architecture to production
• Contribute to engineering culture and technical direction

Example Projects

• Customer Health System: unify product usage, CRM, and feedback into actionable insights
• User Feedback Pipeline: process calls with LLMs to extract themes and product insights
• Billing Infrastructure: build systems for complex B2B pricing and automated invoicing
• Internal Data Platform: create reliable pipelines and APIs for reporting and operations

About You

• Based in London (or willing to relocate)
• Experience owning backend systems end-to-end
• Strong in Python or TypeScript
• Strong PostgreSQL and familiarity with modern data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, etc.)
• Comfortable working in fast-moving startup environments
• Enjoy translating business problems into scalable technical systems
