B7 Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, Head & Neck Cancer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist to join the supportive and dynamic Head and Neck Cancer team at Royal United Hospitals Bath (RUH).

In this role, you will work autonomously as a band 7 (highly specialist SLT) to provide a service to inpatients and local outpatients as part of the wider Adult Head and Neck Oncology Service.

You will be working within the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Outpatient departments and the new Dyson Cancer Centre, which includes oncology, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy services, a 22-bed inpatient ward, and a research team. You will be part of the friendly and innovative adult acute Speech and Language Therapy team.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide a highly specialist, flexible service to adults related to voice and communication disorders, dysphagia, laryngectomy, and surgical voice restoration following a Head and Neck Cancer diagnosis, in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Lead speech & language therapy developments within the Head & Neck Cancer service.
  • Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team, providing highly specialist therapy to patients with ENT needs or Head and Neck Cancer (both benign and malignant) related to communication, voice, and/or swallowing problems, including management of laryngectomy.
  • Participate in the SLT instrumental service.
  • Provide supervision and training to junior staff within the inpatient SLT team and Head and Neck Cancer MDT.
