The Managing Emotions Programme delivers co-produced psycho-educational courses to people experiencing difficulties associated with a diagnosis of Personality Disorder.

The Recovery Coach is required to effectively use your own lived experience to co-facilitate our range of courses.Within a relationship of mutuality, to facilitate and support information-sharing to promote choice, self-determination and empowerment. To co-write and co-deliver recovery focused courses alongside clinicians or expert trainers and work with the multi-disciplinary team in the support of the participants who access the service. This post is supervised by the Senior Recovery Coach.

Main duties of the job

  • The Recovery Coach will support the development of knowledge and skills through sharing the wisdom of their own lived experience. They will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible.
  • To assist participants to identify their strengths and challenges around managing their emotions.
  • To support participants in self-management, keeping well, and offer guidance on how to work towards recovery.
  • To contribute to the development of materials to support the delivery of courses.

They will also contribute towards the delivery and evaluation of the Managing Emotions Programme. Tasks may include those which are administrative; assisting the administrator to organise course delivery and venue booking, collating registers of attendees, and distributing relevant outcome measures.

Their work may include contributing towards co-delivery of focus groups and working with carers and people who use the services to gain their views.

  • oKnowledge regarding personality disorder/emotional intensity, obtained through lived experience and/or caring for somebody with mental health difficulties.

Experience

  • oPersonal lived experience of mental health difficulties (specifically personality disorder/emotional intensity) and a willingness to positively share your own life experiences/ personal experiences of mental ill health as part of the coaching role.
  • oPrevious experience of voluntary or paid employment for a minimum of 1 year
  • oExperience of supporting, teaching or coaching others who are living with mental health difficulties, or caring for someone who does
