The Upper Gastrointestinal service at Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and innovative Nurse to lead the Upper Gastrointestinal Clinical Nurse Specialist Team. You will join a highly specialised Upper Gastrointestinal Team who delivers a high standard of patient-centered care.

Main duties of the job
The Upper GI Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist (Lead CNS) holds a leadership role within the Trust, integral to the provision of a high-quality service for patients referred to the UGI service, including those diagnosed with UGI cancer. The Lead UGI CNS will be a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) within the Clinical Care group of Surgery, with additional responsibility for line management and professional leadership of the Upper and Lower GI Clinical Nurse Specialists. The post holder will oversee nursing services within UGI and Lower Gastrointestinal (LGI) services, with support from the Gastro Matron and Lead Cancer Nurse.
The Lead UGI CNS will demonstrate clinical decision-making skills and an ability to monitor and improve standards of care within the Upper GI service. They will influence patient care through clinical knowledge, teaching, and audit. They will equip primary carers with the skills and knowledge to facilitate high standards of care for all patients with upper GI cancer from referrals throughout their disease trajectory.
The Lead UGI CNS will participate in developing and implementing Integrated Care Pathways, protocols, etc. They will develop skills to act as a resource facilitator, educating and training staff and students to provide optimal nursing care.
