Job summary

McNally Recruitment Ltd in the United Kingdom is seeking a senior, hands-on Platform & Infrastructure Engineer to design, build and operate a secure, resilient Azure estate and its CI/CD, IaC, containers and observability stack.

You will lead standards, guardrails and reusable services, own complex designs, embed security and compliance, and collaborate across distributed teams while documenting runbooks and architecture.

Qualifications

• Senior platform, infrastructure or cloud engineering experience.
• Hands-on Azure design, build and operation across compute, networking and storage.
• Experience designing and improving CI/CD pipelines with GitLab.
• Containerisation with Docker/Kubernetes/Helm and GitOps concepts.
• Proficiency with Terraform for cloud and on-premise IaC patterns.
• Experience with monitoring/observability tools (e.g., Splunk/Prometheus/Grafana).
• Scripting in PowerShell/Bash; Python or Go for automation tasks.
• Ability to write and review code, YAML-based automation and configurations.
• Experience in Agile environments; proficient with Jira/Confluence.
• Strong communication and technical writing; documentation-focused.

Responsibilities

• Act as a senior, hands-on engineer within Platform & Infrastructure.
• Design, build and operate secure, scalable Azure infrastructure and CI/CD stack.
• Establish engineering standards, reference architectures and guardrails.
• Lead delivery automation using GitLab, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform and DevOps practices.
• Own complex designs and operational issues, ensuring security, cost-efficiency and resilience.
• Embed security, compliance and observability throughout platform design and delivery.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing, runbooks and architectural documentation.
