Azure Engineer

Contract 12-month FTC

Working hours: 35 hours per week is full time. Where possible, we are open to considering part time/flexible working patterns. Please let us know in your application your desired working pattern.

Salary: Circa £55,000

Reporting to: Machine Learning Lead

Our permanent hybrid policy sees us all working at least four days across a fortnight in the office.

At the Financial Ombudsman Service, we’re working to enhance our service by setting the standard for modern, efficient, accessible alternative dispute resolution. This is an exciting opportunity to join us as a new Executive team was established last year to bring the Service on the next phase of its journey.

The Intelligent Automation team at the Financial Ombudsman Service is developing and delivering AI and Gen AI based optimizations that provide benefits to the business. The team designs and develops Azure applications and data processing pipelines for various AI projects.

You’ll be working with senior developers, product owners, and business analysts and contributing to the requirement definition, development, solution design, and architectural designs. You’ll also be involved in sprint planning by defining and owning the user stories as well as providing estimates for your work. You’ll be developing solutions that have a direct impact on business teams who are the users of the solutions.

You’ll be working with the technology team and business stakeholders and will help to solve problems by using data to identify and create new machine learning and automation solutions. You’ll also be helping to share your knowledge by collaborating with the wider IT team and helping to develop process and training documentation.

Key responsibilities

  • Working collaboratively with senior developers to assess the potential impact of a range of different solutions.
  • Determining appropriate methods for developing a solution.
  • Identifying opportunities for Continuous Improvement and optimizations of existing solutions.
  • Taking personal responsibility for delivering on your objectives in line with our values.
  • Creation of high-level and low-level specifications for development work.

To be considered for this role, you’ll need to show us that you’ve got the skills and capabilities. You’ll have to meet the following minimum criteria:

Minimum Criteria

  • A good level of experience in developing and deploying large scale data transformation/processing pipelines in Azure.
  • Tech stack:
    • Azure Data Factory
    • Logic Apps
    • SQL, Cosmos DB
    • Azure Batch, Azure Functions
    • Azure Dev Ops – CI/CD
    • Bicep templates
  • Working in an agile development environment with the ability to communicate technical concepts and analytical outputs to a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Being able to provide estimates for business requirements and break them down into tasks.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of various Azure services.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in Power Platform.
  • Python or other programming language experience.
