Job Title: Azure Cloud Engineer

Contract Type: 1-year FTC

Salary: £43,500

This is an exciting opportunity to join a large national charity who are looking for an experience Azure Cloud Engineer to join their growing IT Platforms Team.

Job Purpose

The Azure Cloud Engineer will play a key role in the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimisation of cloud-based infrastructure within Microsoft Azure. This role supports the charity's mission by ensuring secure, scalable, and efficient cloud services are in place to enable digital transformation, improve service delivery, and enhance data security across the organisation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage Azure cloud solutions aligned with best practices and the charity's IT strategy
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain cloud infrastructure, ensuring availability, security, and cost-efficiency
  • Implement automation tools (e.g., ARM templates, Bicep, Terraform, PowerShell) to streamline deployments and operations
  • Collaborate with the security team to ensure compliance with data protection policies and technical controls
  • Provide support and guidance for Azure-related incidents, changes, and requests
  • Contribute to the development of cloud governance frameworks and cost management strategies
  • Participate in project planning and delivery, providing Azure expertise where needed
  • Keep documentation up to date, including technical configurations, procedures, and support materials
  • Support business continuity and disaster recovery efforts related to cloud infrastructure
  • Stay informed of new Azure developments, recommending improvements and innovations

Person Specification

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Strong experience designing, deploying, and supporting Azure cloud infrastructure
  • Proficiency in scripting/automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Terraform, ARM, Bicep)
  • Solid understanding of networking, security, and identity management in Azure
  • Familiarity with Azure Monitor, Azure Policy, Azure Security Center, and cost management tools
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both technical and non-technical teams
  • Experience managing virtual networks, storage, backup, and disaster recovery in cloud environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Desirable:

  • Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-104, AZ-305)
  • Knowledge of hybrid environments (e.g., on-prem and Azure integration)
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit or public sector
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
