Job summary

scottishathletics, in partnership with Ayr Seaforth AC, is seeking a Pathway Development Officer to lead athlete and coach development at Ayr.

The role is part-time (10 hours/week) with evening and weekend work, a salary starting at £6,994, and a focus on sustainable coaching pathways and club growth.

You will work with coaches, volunteers and club leaders to create clear pathways, improve capacity and accessibility across all disciplines and ages.

Responsibilities

About You

We're seeking an enthusiastic individual to provide dedicated leadership and coordination required to implement a structured, strategic approach to both athlete and coach development. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact and help our club thrive.

About the Role

This exciting opportunity within Ayr Seaforth Athletic Club for a Pathway Development Officer to join the club will be in partnership with Scottish Athletics. This post is funded by Ayr Seaforth AC and sportscotland.

Ayr Seaforth AC has been supporting local athletes for over 50 years, with a current membership of over 150. The club provides athletes of all ages and abilities with opportunities to participate in athletics at local, regional, and national levels.

The Pathway Development Officer will play a key role in strengthening the club's athlete development pathway and coaching workforce. Working closely with coaches, volunteers and club leaders, the postholder will develop and implement a clear athlete and coaching pathway, creating greater consistency, transparency and support for athlete progression.

The role will review current coaching provision and athlete needs, identifying opportunities to improve capacity, quality and accessibility across all disciplines and age groups. A key focus will be developing a sustainable coaching workforce through recruitment, education and ongoing support, while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning among coaches. By establishing clear structures, pathways and development opportunities, the Pathway Development Officer will help improve the athlete experience, strengthen coaching provision and support the club's long-term growth and sustainability.

Staff

scottishathletics employs 33 members of staff and 21 Club Together Officers.

Place of Work

Riverside Sports Arena, University Avenue, Ayr.

Salary

The starting salary offered for the post will be £6,994. Annual pay awards will be made in accordance with the salary review procedures agreed by the scottishathletics Board of Directors.

Hours of work

The person appointed will be expected to work for 10 hours per-week. Due to the nature of the post, there will be a requirement to work in the evenings and at weekends. The organisation encourages a flexible working approach from all staff, consistent with meeting the needs of the business.

Pension

scottishathletics operates a qualifying group pension scheme for auto-enrolment purposes and will match the successful candidates' contribution up to a maximum of 6% of salary, including the legal minimum contributions required.

Annual Leave and Public Holidays

The annual leave entitlement for this post is 25 days (pro rata), increasing to 30 days after five years' service. In addition, the public holiday entitlement is 10.5 days (pro rata).

Probationary Period

All new members of staff will serve a three-month probationary period before their appointment is confirmed.

Notice

This post carries a one-month period to terminate employment after the satisfactory completion of the probationary period.
