Sompo has a unique opportunity for a AVP, Underwriter in our Financial & Political Risk team in our Underwriting business.

Our Financial & Political Risks team offers the full suite of tailored Political Risk and Credit Insurance products with an experienced team via underwriting hubs in London, Singapore and Japan. Our coverages facilitate global trade, commerce and investment, and we seek to provide underwriting and risk management expertise combined with a professional and responsive claims service.

What you’ll be doing:

• Develop, source, structure, assess and underwrite credit and political risk insurance transactions with both brokers and Insureds.
• Work with the Credit Risk Analyst team on risk assessments.
• Review and assess transaction documentation and policy wordings.
• Ensure the business handled meets Sompo’s compliance and legal requirements.
• Work with clients and brokers on the management of in-force transactions.
• Liaise with other teams within the company, such as ERM, Actuarial, Claims, Compliance as required.
• Stay informed about appropriate legal, compliance, and market risk related issues.

What you’ll bring:

• Ability to analyse financial information.
• Ability to understand and assess all forms of debt / trade finance instruments, sovereign lending, structured transactions (particularly project finance, structured trade, and asset finance) and loan agreements.
• Strong knowledge of transaction documentation and legal environment.
• Ability to work in a close team environment.
• 5+ years in a similar role within either a Credit Insurer or Lending institution.
• Strong interest in finance, economics, and international politics.
• Good communication skills and an ability to deal with personnel at all levels.
