Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Assistant Vice President Underwriter in our Management Liability team in our UK business:

The Management Liability team, established in 2014, boasts a robust network of brokers and provides a comprehensive range of management liability products. The team is committed to expanding its regional presence and aims to grow nationally across the UK and Ireland. We are dedicated to this initiative and are enthusiastic about developing the necessary infrastructure to support it.

Location:

This position will be based out of either our Manchester or Birmingham office and report into the Head of National Management Liability UK. We strive for collaboration, which is why we offer a work environment where our employees thrive and develop long-lasting careers.

What You’ll Be Doing
  1. Underwriting - Full and thorough underwriting of all accounts in accordance with underwriting guidelines and individual authority granted by management.
  2. Profitability - Focus on profitability of portfolio.
  3. Production - Heavy focus on regional broker development - Nationally in the UK.
  4. New Business - Strong focus on new business production to grow regional/national ML portfolio.
  5. Renewal Retention - Focus on renewal retention with targets set with the unit head.
  6. Service - Implementation of first-class underwriting service, building a strong reputation recognized as superior in the industry.
  7. Broker maintenance - Continuous engagement with brokers including regular catchups, meetings, entertainment, etc.
  8. Market material - Develop product supporting material including IPID, sales material, website, and other collateral to support marketing and production initiatives.
  9. Communication - Provide continuous input, feedback, and support at ML underwriting meetings.
  10. Collaboration - Work with other lines of business, particularly Financial Institutions, to build out the portfolio.
  11. Administration - File all risks electronically to the standard set by the unit head.
  12. Reporting - Conduct data analysis and regular review of the portfolio as required by the unit head.
  13. Travel - Expectation of national travel as required.
What You’ll Bring
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant underwriting experience.
  • Experience and technical knowledge of underwriting Management Liability.
  • Experience in underwriting UK Management Liability business.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical skills.
