AVP, Senior Underwriter, P&C Middle Market

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter for our London office, focused on the Middle Market segment. This role involves building a profitable book of business within European business parameters, working closely with key broker partners in the UK.

Main Responsibilities

1. Prioritize and evaluate new and renewal submissions to identify profitable accounts aligned with business and profit objectives.
2. Price and analyze coverage, structure, and exposures on risks.
3. Set terms and conditions per underwriting strategies to quote qualified risks.
4. Participate in client/broker meetings and social events.
5. Maintain disciplined underwriting pricing to meet profitability goals, adhering to guidelines and procedures.
6. Expand the portfolio by developing existing relationships and acquiring new clients.
7. Support customer relationships with a focus on risk mitigation, governance, and sound decision-making, including conducting underwriting audits.
8. Complete referral applications for risks outside authority for higher approval levels.
9. Assist in team development through referrals and training.
10. Contribute to operational and underwriting efficiency improvement projects.

Qualifications and Skills

1. Undergraduate degree; insurance or advanced degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 10+ years of commercial underwriting experience, especially in the middle market.
3. Established relationships with retail producers.
4. Strong negotiation skills.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
