Job description

Job Overview

Epsom College is seeking a skilled AV Technician to support its audio visual and events commitments during the academic year and holiday periods for Commercial Events. The role involves working as part of the AV Technical and Events support team to facilitate school and commercial events.

This position is responsible for delivering technical requirements for both commercial and school-led events, working with the Commercial & Events Manager to meet requirements and maintain high standards.

The College features a large concert space, a multi-purpose hall, a lecture theatre, two performing arts studios, and other meeting or performance spaces. There are plans to create a new recording studio in the Music department.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide AV technical support for all school and commercial events, ensuring high standards of delivery in consultation with the Commercial & Events Manager and Head of Music Technology and AV.
  2. Maintain music and audiovisual facilities for events.
  3. Collaborate with the team to deliver a varied events program across departments.
  4. Support the Drama and Music Departments, ensuring high-quality sound recording and reproduction for concerts and school productions.
  5. Assist in recording and producing pupil work as required.
  6. Support filming and video editing of performances.
  7. Supervise and train pupils in the use of sound systems and musical technology.
  8. Assist with routine maintenance of AV equipment, repairs, replacements, and PAT testing.
  9. Act as the main contact during events, resolving technical issues professionally as requested by the Commercial & Events Manager.
  10. Fix routine sound and projection issues in classrooms.
  11. Ensure health and safety protocols are followed.
  12. Maintain compliance with safeguarding procedures.
  13. Contribute to the design and installation of sound equipment for school events.
  14. Collaborate with the IT Department on technical duties during term and holidays.
  15. Provide technical support for school productions, including pre- and post-production tasks.
  16. Manage administrative tasks such as maintaining stock levels of sound and media equipment.
  17. Respond to AV requests from staff and clarify event booking requirements.
  18. Serve as Duty Manager for events, greeting clients and setting up technical requirements.
  19. Assist with other related tasks in planning, setup, and management of college events.
