The University of Edinburgh seeks an AV digitisation professional for a full-time, permanent position. The role involves digitising AV heritage collections and providing technical support. We are looking for an AV digitisation professional to join our team on a permanent basis, to undertake programmatic and on-demand digitisation of the University’s AV heritage collections. If you have an understanding of AV digitisation equipment, processes and software, a passion for heritage collections and experience of working with formats such as reel-to-reel, cassette and VHS, then we would love to hear from you.
While this is a full-time position, we are committed to flexible working and are very willing to consider options such as compressed hours or staggered start or finish times. Due to the nature of the work, this role is predominantly an on-campus one.
Responsibilities include:
Digitising a range of AV and sound material from across the University’s heritage collections, with a focus on, but not limited to, the collections of the School of Scottish Studies Archive.
Processing AV and audio material in order to generate preservation masters and access copies.
Providing technical support and regular maintenance of AV and audio recording kit.
Undertaking basic listing / metadata creation under supervision from curatorial staff.
Handling and monitoring heritage materials in accordance with conservation guidelines and training, and occasionally performing basic treatments.
Providing technical support for ingest of new AV / audio acquisitions to long-term storage.
Our ideal candidate will have:
Knowledge and experience of using AV digitisation equipment for heritage formats.
Experience of relevant AV software (e.g. Wavelab, Audition. FFmpeg).
Experience of handling and working with heritage formats (e.g. reel-to-reel, cassette, digital audio tape).
Current awareness of AV and audio digitisation standards.
Ability to prioritise and work to agreed upon deadlines.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
