Job description

Overall Description of Role:

The primary role of the AV Manager at Wesley MC is to oversee and manage the AV Department and AV needs of the church, ensuring the smooth operation of all AV-related activities in the church in collaboration with its ministries, including audio, video, lighting, and AV-related IT support.

The AV Manager will directly support church events and also supervise AV staff and volunteers as assigned, manage relationships with vendors, and ensure the design, installation, maintenance and improvement of AV systems and equipment.

Main responsibilities:

  1. AV Operations: Manage AV department resources to provide AV support worship services, conferences, camps, activities and events, whether in church or external premises, through assigning of AV staff, operating AV systems, working together with AV volunteers or engaging external AV freelancers.
  2. Project Management: To oversee AV projects including planning, budgeting, executing, installation, maintenance, upgrades; these may be standalone AV projects or part of larger renovation and other upgrading projects which involve AV
  3. Staff and Volunteer Management: To supervise staff in the AV department, assigning them work, as well as training and guiding them to perform their duties; and as assigned, to train and supervise volunteer teams on how to operate the AV equipment in a collaborative and skill team environment.
  4. Vendor Management: To facilitate the development of professional relationships with vendors, and procure new equipment in accordance with church processes and needs.
  5. Maintenance: To perform proactive maintenance on the AV equipment and systems across the church to result in as little disruption as possible.
  6. Future Planning: Provide input on improvements and new systems, equipment and processes that would benefit the church, its ministries, and activities.
  7. Administration: To plan and oversee the AV department budget for prudence; to develop and implement an AV policy and standard operation procedures.

Job Requirement:

1. Committed to the Church’s Mission and goals with a “can do” attitude.

2. Able to lead and work with others, including volunteers, and give as well as take directions.

3. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

4. Ability to think quickly and respond calmly during a highly stress situation.

5. Willing to improve skills including by attending training sessions and study training materials.

6. Working experience in a large church (>2000 members) is a plus

7. Willing to work on the week end including Sat & Sun, Public Holiday.

Technical Skills

  1. Audio: Digital Mixers (including Yamaha) and Dante Networking, Shure/Sennheiser wireless technology, in-ear monitoring systems, and recording and post-production
  2. Video: Blackmagic hardware and software, PTZ camera operation and basic AV over IP or NDI video networks
  3. Lighting: Use and programming of DMX-based systems
  4. Presentation: PowerPoint (minimum) and ProPresenter 7, Qlab
  5. AV Networking: be familiar with AV networking systems
  6. Livestreaming: OBS or similar livestreaming platforms
  7. Live events: Has experience in AV work in a live environment.
  8. Technical ability: Diagnose and troubleshoot AV systems and equipment issues on the spot; comfortable with reading technical schematic diagrams, with basic knowledge of basic routing and configurations.
