Job summary

Morson Talent is recruiting for an Auxiliary Assistant, based in Acton, supporting production and workshop teams with preparation, movement and basic assembly of rail components and equipment.

The role requires a current counterbalance forklift licence and hands-on experience with basic hand and power tools. You will work days, Mon–Fri, in a depot environment focused on safety and efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • Valid counterbalance forklift licence (required).
  • Previous forklift driving experience.
  • Experience using basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to understand and follow written instructions.

  • Reliable, proactive housekeeping and safe working.

Responsibilities

  • Assist production teams with stripping, cleaning, preparation and minor assembly.
  • Clean and prepare components, bogies and railway carriages.
  • Identify raw materials and components using BOMs and stores requisitions.
  • Operate counterbalance forklift trucks and other handling equipment.
  • Operate overhead cranes and electric/road vehicles where trained.
  • Transport equipment safely around the depot.
  • Use hand and power tools to assemble components.
  • Assist with safe dismantling of equipment to component level.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the workshop and depot.
  • Report defects, unsafe practices and safety concerns.
  • Follow health and safety procedures and working instructions.

Shift pattern:

Days – Monday – Friday 7am – 15.00pm, Friday 7am – 12 noon

Morson Talent is recruiting for an Auxiliary Assistant, this is a hands‑on, depot‑based position, within a train depot, supporting production and workshop teams with the preparation, movement and basic assembly of rail components and equipment.

Key responsibilities
  • Supporting production teams with stripping, cleaning, preparation and minor assembly work.
  • Cleaning and preparing components, bogies and railway carriages.
  • Identifying raw materials and manufactured components using bills of materials, stores requisitions and manufacturing specifications.
  • Operating counterbalance forklift trucks and other materials-handling equipment.
  • Operating overhead cranes, electric vehicles and road vehicles where appropriately trained and authorised.
  • Transporting equipment and assets safely around the depot.
  • Using hand and power tools, including drills, sanders and powered screwdrivers.
  • Assisting with the safe dismantling of equipment to component or sub‑system level.
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping throughout the workshop and depot.
  • Reporting equipment defects, unsafe working practices and potential safety concerns.
  • Following all relevant health and safety procedures, working instructions and driving‑at‑work requirements.
Essential requirements
  • A current and valid counterbalance / forklift licence.
  • Previous forklift driving experience.
  • Experience using basic hand and power tools.
  • Good practical or mechanical aptitude.
  • The ability to understand and follow written working instructions.
  • A strong awareness of workplace health and safety.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A reliable, proactive approach to general housekeeping and safe working.
Desirable experience
  • Previous experience within a rail, engineering, manufacturing, maintenance or depot environment.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes or other mechanised materials‑handling equipment.
  • Experience dismantling equipment to component level.
  • Awareness of manual handling and basic first aid principles.
