Job summary

Alton Surgery is seeking a locum GP to cover a partner’s maternity leave for at least 14 weeks, starting mid January 2027. The post offers autonomous clinical care for a rural list of about 2,700 patients, including consultations, triage and repeat prescribing.

Five clinical sessions per week fall on Monday, Tuesday and one of Wednesday or Friday, within a training practice that supervises resident doctors, GP trainees and medical students.

Qualifications

• Qualified GP with evidence of CCT or JCPTGP.

Responsibilities

• Provide autonomous medical care to the practice population at a high clinical standard.
• Carry out face-to-face and telephone consultations, with occasional home visits.
• Manage patient triage effectively through AccuRx.
• Check and sign repeat prescriptions and handle queries, paperwork and correspondence.
• Communicate well with patients, carers and colleagues.
• Supervise non-medical staff and medical trainees.
• Manage own time, workload and resources efficiently.
• Help maintain QOF scores and contribute to targeted clinics or audits.
