Job summary

Wigan & Leigh College is recruiting a Motor Vehicle Technician to support the delivery of Motor Vehicle provision in industry-standard workshops. You’ll prepare equipment, supervise learners and help lecturers ensure safe, professional sessions.

Ideal candidates have Level 3 qualifications in Motor Vehicle or related automotive discipline and hands-on workshop experience, with a focus on health and safety and practical learning.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in Motor Vehicle Engineering or related automotive field (Level 3 preferred).
• Industry experience in motor vehicle engineering, maintenance or diagnostics.
• Confident in using and maintaining workshop tools and equipment.
• Good knowledge of health and safety in an automotive workshop.
• Strong organisation to manage tools, vehicles and workshop spaces.
• Willingness to complete health and safety or first-aid training.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tools, equipment, vehicles and workshop spaces for practical sessions.
• Support lecturers before, during and after practical delivery.
• Maintain safe, clean and organised workshop environments.
• Demonstrate safe use of tools and processes.
• Supervise and support learners in workshops.
• Monitor tools, equipment, materials and stock levels.
• Carry out routine workshop checks and risk assessments.
• Report faults or safety concerns promptly.
• Promote safe working habits and professional standards.
• Support Open Evenings and taster sessions.
