Job summary

ALTEN LTD - UK in Basildon is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to automotive engineering projects. You will design mechanical components and assemblies, produce 3D CATIA V6 models, and create detailed drawings, while mentoring junior engineers and ensuring design for manufacture.

The candidate should have 3+ years CATIA V6 experience, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, and be able to work on-site with a hybrid arrangement and SC clearance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on CATIA V6 experience in an engineering environment.
• Strong mechanical design engineering experience within the automotive sector.
• Ability to mentor and support other engineers in the use of CATIA V6.
• Experience creating and managing complex parts, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
• Good understanding of design for manufacture and engineering best practices.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs and 3D models for automotive components and assemblies
• Create detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation using CATIA V6
• Support product development activities from concept through to production release
• Participate in design reviews and engineering problem-solving activities
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers on CATIA V6 best practices
• Support design governance, configuration management, and change control activities
