Job description

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a college in the Carmarthen area to support the appointment of an Automotive Engineer Lecturer.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging and practical lessons across a range of qualifications, from Level 1 to Level 3, including apprenticeships. They will play a key role in developing learners' skills and knowledge in a hands-on environment, ensuring they are well-prepared for careers in the rapidly evolving automotive industry.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Curriculum Area's future developments.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Contribute to teaching, assessment, and coordination of programmes leading to Entry Level 3, Levels 1, 2, and 3 in Automotive Engineering;
  2. Develop other PT, schools provision, and commercial programmes, e.g., short courses;
  3. Assume the role of a Learning Area Programme Lead (LAP Leader) where required;
  4. Undertake assessment and verification duties;
  5. Contribute to the development of new courses and foster a culture of innovation and commercial activities;
  6. Perform any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive, consistent with the grade of the post.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise:
Essential Criteria:
  • Level 3 or equivalent in Automotive Engineering;
  • Relevant Higher Academic/Vocational qualification in Automotive Engineering;
  • Teaching qualification (if not possessed at employment start, a PGCE must be obtained within 2 years);
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent;
  • Documented evidence of professional development;
  • Relevant industrial experience in Motor Vehicle Engineering;
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work harmoniously with students and colleagues;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Creative flair and practical skills;
  • Relevant ICT skills;
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills, with effective communication at all levels;
  • Understanding of digital literacy;
  • Excellent punctuality and flexibility.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Relevant teaching experience;
  • Understanding of Hybrid and Electric cars (training provided);
  • Knowledge of post-16 education issues;
  • Proven track record of high learner attainment;
  • Awareness of key performance indicators;
  • Innovative teaching and learning activities;
  • Experience in tracking and monitoring learner performance;
  • Experience in pastoral care of young people;
  • Current driving license;
  • Willingness to drive a college minibus;
  • Willingness to develop extracurricular activities.
